Installation/ Performance/ Photography

2026
This installation and performance is a direct address to the Netherlands, imagined as a former lover. The work reads as a message, part poem, part confrontation, part break-up text, capturing the tension of desire and emotions.

A scaffolding structure wrapped in mesh forms the core of the piece, referencing construction sites and urban advertising. Positioned between public and private space, it resembles a billboard while withholding full clarity. The large text is both exposed and intimate, suggesting a message meant to be seen but not fully resolved.

A wooden barrier encloses the structure, echoing protective architectural elements that restrict access. This introduces a subtle play on entrance and exclusion, questioning who is allowed in and under what conditions: physically, socially, and emotionally.

Alongside the installation, Maja performs the character Floortje, a speculative self shaped by eight years of living in the Netherlands. Floortje embodies learned behaviors and absorbs “normalities,” existing between assimilation and projection.
